Agent Product Road Map

This page is a high-level description of the product development strategy for Agent. We periodically change the Road Map to reflect input from the Agent Design Board, the Agent Beta Team, and Agent Users.

Development Program

Our plan is to deliver features as a series of incremental software releases. We refer to this series of releases as a development stream. As we determine the content of each release in the stream, we will update the road map with information about current stage of the product development cycle:

Design » Development » Internal Trial » External Beta » General Release

Development Streams

Agent 1.x Beginning in 1995, this stream set the standard for offline newsreaders with support for automatic multipart joining and integrated support for POP email.
Agent 2.x Released in 2004, this stream was an extensive re-write of Agent's internal architecture. This new foundation will enable us to rapidly release new versions of Agent with the features you've been waiting for. In order to ensure a stable, high quality release we have run an extended development and beta test cycle.
Agent 3.x The current stream provides frequently requested features such as multiple news servers, multiple server connections, virtual news servers, and multiple POP email accounts.
Agent 4.x This stream offers unparalleled control of newsgroups and email. The initial release, Agent 4.0, will display inline images, safely render HTML content, and provide superior management of binary attachments. Agent 4.0 integrates the power of Bayesian statistical models, trust-based routing, and persona memorization to reduce message overload and protect your identity as you compose news and email messages.
Agent 5.x Forté will offer an array of news + email software and services.
